Review: The Name of the Wind

The Name of the Wind The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'm breathless. Currently, I'm reading the second book in the Saga, and I intend to write a full review of the series after I've finished that. But let me say that much in advance that I'm not really a greenhorn when it comes to fantasy. Although I've been reading mainly sci-fi for the last few years (apart from Brian McClellan's Powder Mage series) but I had my share of fantasy before. I really honor Tolkien's works and I think George R. R. Martin is pure genius with the Songs of Ice and Fire. But this is better. It's really can't compare in intricate political to Martin's works or the painstaking world building of Tolkien's (I'm thinking about inventing a whole language for the sake of a book). Still, I think that while Rothfuss concentrates on the story of the main character it still reveals a really believable universe. The writing is absolutely amazing, and so are the characters. So So this series is absolutely on the highest shelf of fantasy for me and I would risk saying that it even exceeds the works of the great masters. For me, this is absolutely the best book I have read in years and perhaps even in the top 3 ever.

10 out of 5.
