Review: Provenance

Provenance Provenance by Ann Leckie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well, to be honest, my 5-star rating really is a 4.5. The reason I decided with 5 stars, after all, is that this book is the first one in a new Saga (if I'm not mistaken) and it shows great promise. I really loved the Ancillary Justice trilogy and I fell in love with the universe the author created there. This story is set in the far away part of the same universe, so it's really different in most parts but also feels somewhat familiar. The main plot circles around a murder case, which is quite strange in a Lackie book, but it works well, and it's mainly there to set the foundation for all the political conspiracies and fightings she is well known for. I really adore her knowledge of the language, even though, her eloquent use of it (with all the new phrases, vocabulary, and even grammar elements) makes it a little bit more challenging for me to read (for I am not a native English speaker). It's like hard literature in a sci-fi setting. You have to struggle with it a little to unfold, but it worth it. I recommend this to anyone who read and liked the Ancillary Justice trilogy or just anyone in general who likes a story mainly about intrigue and cabal rather than blazing lasers and proton torpedoes for a change. Though I'm definitely heading out to read some of the latter for my next choice of books :D
