This was one of the most original ideas I came across the last couple of years in a sci-fi novel. Also, it was quite well executed, with a bit on the science side of science fiction (though I wouldn't really consider it a hardcore hard sci-fi). It was also quite funny all along the way. But somehow I couldn't decide whether I should consider it a serious novel or a parody. Sometimes there was drama and excitement, but other times it seemed that the author was really willing to sacrifice this for a few puns, jokes or geek cultural references. So I really liked it, while it lasted, but after I've put down the book at the last page I didn't want to go back to the "Bobiverse" (yeah, this is the kind of childish humor I'm talking about) at once. And since then I'm not sure I want to at all. I probably will, though. :D Still, it was a fun summer read, and I would gladly recommend it to a friend anytime.

The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris My rating: 5 of 5 stars I've read this book like 3 times when I was a teenager, but apart from the main plot I only remembered that I loved it very much. I think I didn't even know at that time that this was the part of a series. Now though I intend to read the whole series in the "correct" order so after finishing Red Dragon, I re-read Silence of the Lambs as well. Even though some memories came back during reading it was still a very exciting and enjoyable experience. Thriller and horror and not my main go-to genre, but I think Hannibal Lecter is one of the best villains of all time. I totally recommend it to anyone, even if not having read Red Dragon.
